Are You 'Fit To Sit'?

If you are affected by Mitigating Circumstances (exceptional, acute events outside of your control) which have had a significant effect on your preparation or ability to sit an assessment, you should consider if you are in the best position to take the examination or submit your essay at the deadline.

If you think this is the case, you can submit an application for Mitigating Circumstances up to 5 working days prior to the assessment. You can request for:

  1. An extension of a deadline

  2. For your exam to be moved to a later date

  3. For these circumstances to be taken into consideration, should you need to apply for a discretionary 3rd attempt

More information can be found on the University’s website & guidance of how to apply can be found here.

There has recently been a change to the Mitigating Circumstances Policy:

"Due to the current COVID 19 situation, we are removing the requirement to provide medical evidence to support claims made for any assessment on or after 17 March 2020 until further notice or the end of the academic year, whichever is soonest."

To clarify, if you have a medical reason for applying for mitigating circumstances, you do not need to provide medical evidence. If your reason is not medical, then you do still need to supply evidence with your claim.
